Handflute in Schools: How Visiting Instructors Are Changing Music Education
Bringing the Handflute into the Classroom
The Hong Kong Handflute Association's visiting instructor service is, put simply, about bringing the handflute into the classroom.
Instructors go directly to the school and run experience talks or workshops. Students don't need any prior musical knowledge. A single talk typically targets an entire class or year group, letting students see what the handflute is and try producing a sound themselves. Workshops are smaller and longer, with enough time to teach basic scales. The Association can arrange either format flexibly according to the school's needs.

School Collaboration Examples
The Association has visited City University of Hong Kong, Heung To Secondary School, The Mission Covenant Church Holm Glad No. 2 Primary School, and HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, among others. The venue at Lee Shau Kee was particularly interesting — the black box theatre space made the handflute sound unexpectedly good during a demonstration of the Demon Slayer theme melody, and the moment the entire audience of students fell silent left a lasting impression on the instructor.
